Here is yesterday's blog post, forgot to post it:
We had a lounge-around-the house day, which was awesome. Grandma is gone to my aunt's graduation from nursing school, so it's just me, my sister, and my dad. We ate blueberry scones for breakfast, which were amazing. We just chilled around the house for a while, not really doing much. Then we put on our swimsuits and walked to Shell beach, the best one for swimming. It was awesome, but we had to hurry back for NBA Finals Game 7. Our Cavs are world champs now, which is super exciting for die-hard Cleveland fans like ourselves. We were too stoked to go to bed, so we stayed up and watched a movie before going to sleep. We also ate cupcakes, which were part of our celebration. Finally went to bed at around midnight.

It was lounge day for us. We went to the beach with Katie, which she loved. Got some good pictures of her and the waves. We brought home a pizza for dinner and chowed down, and then when it was dark we walked down to Chicken Ranch beach. It was so light out with the full moon that we didn't really need a flashlight. It was special because it was the first full moon on summer solstice in decades. Very cool!
Yesterday we finally got into California. We left the hotel at around 8, and drove until we stopped to get lunch at Granzella's in Williams. It's a big deli, bakery, sports bar, olive-tasting place, and a lot of other things where we always stop to get sandwiches. We walked Katie, and then got back on the road, we got to our grandma's at around 4:30 last night. We ate dinner, then walked to chicken ranch beach. Came home to eat pie and ice cream, then went to sleep.
we had an awesome time hanging in Port Townsend today. We visited my auntie at her nursing job at the hospital, which was great. Then we drove downtown, where we stopped at our favorite boutique shops. My mom, sister and I love browsing home decor, so we had an awesome day wandering through the stores. Ate hot dogs from a stand, then went to Lila Drake, one of my favorite jewelry stores. They sell real sterling silver rings, earrings, and other jewelry pieces for crazy good prices. Came home and got take-out from 1-2-3 Thai Food, which is definitely the best Thai food I have ever had. Their Panang curry is incredible. We watched TV, then went to bed.
Ok, sorry I haven't blogged in a few days. Here's a description of what has happened the past few days: 6/8/16 We got into port Townsend pretty late on Wednesday. Crossed over the US border pretty smoothly. After crossing the border, we drove to Coupville, where we got on the ferry to get to Port Townsend. It was amazing being on the water, even though it was cloudy. We got dinner at Waterfront Pizza, which makes the most killer pizza ever! Finally got into my aunt's, where we just chilled and then went to bed. 6/9/16 Woke up to birds singing outside. My auntie went out to get croissants at the fancy bakery. They were awesome, especially the chocolate ones. After a while, my mom, Anna, Katie, and I went to the beach. It was Katie's first time going, so that was an exciting experience for both her and us. After we got back from the beach, my dad and I left for Seattle to go see a baseball game, the Seattle Mariners vs. the Cleveland Indians. We are hard-core Tribe fans, so this was a crazy, probably-not-gonna-happen-again type of experience. We drove to Bainbridge Island where we parked the car and caught the ferry to Seattle. Once the ferry docked, we walked off and started heading to the field, which is about a mile away from the terminal. At this point, we were getting pretty flipping excited. It's not every day that you get to go see your team playing in a different field. My dad and I are completely die-hard when it comes to the Indians. We absolutely live for baseball during the summer, so this game is a big highlight of our trip for us. Anyway, we walked to the park, and got to our seats. We got food and drinks and watched the players take batting practice. Then, the game began. It was an epic game, with lots of tension. The lead went back and forth between the teams, and in the last inning of the game, Seattle had a chance to take the lead. Luckily, we pulled out of it, and the Indians won 5-3. It was an amazing experience, considering the last game we went to, which only had 4 hits the whole time. Walked back to the ferry terminal, where we caught to the 12:15 ferry back home. We got back home at 2, and were asleep not long after.
Today was the longest drive yet. Actually, though, it didn't seem that bad. We got up and walked our dog, Katie, and got on the road soon after. Ate lots of salty snacks, which is hard not to do when your bored from sitting in the car all day. Saw 6 more bears and a moose, which was exciting. Katie, our miniature dachshund, goes crazy whenever we spot any wildlife, so it's a wonder when I actually do get decent pictures of animals. Got to Prince George at around 7, and checked into a cute little motel on the outskirts of town. My dad took Anna and I out to the motel diner, where we had bomb burgers and shakes. Finally came back to the room to watch a little tv and go to bed. Tomorrow, we will get to Port Townsend, one of my favorite places. Can't wait to be out of the car! I'll take lots of pictures on the ferry ride there, hopefully they'll turn out good!
Peace out, Victoria Left our motel at around 8:30, which gives you an idea about what "early" means in the summer for our family. We got breakfast at Tim Hortons, an awesome breakfast chain located only in Canada. Our family always loved going there to get breakfast sandwiches there when we are in Canada, since they're better then McMuffins. We also stopped at Starbucks, which you'll find is a common staple in our lives while traveling. Got on the road at 8:55, and were not completely bored out of our minds this time. We drove by lots of huge lakes that seemed like small oceans. You might wonder how my sister and I manage to stay sane sitting still in the car for so long, and it can get extremely boring at times, but it actually gets more comfortable once you get used to it. Today didn't seem as long as yesterday, and I'm sure nothing is as bad as the first day on the road, but I'd does get better. We got to Dease lake to spend the night, which is literally just a stop along the Cassiar Highway. There's only one place to stay, and that's the Motor inn. There's also only one place to eat, and it was closed while we were here. We got snacks at the gas station, and made a meal out of them. My dad and I are extremely into baseball, so you can probably guess what was on the TV a large portion of the time. Took a walk down to a small lake , and it was nice to get exercise. We then came back to the room, where we ate ice cream sandwiches and took showers, now, we're gonna get ready for bed to get ready for another long day. Today, we drove 510 miles to get to Whitehorse, Canada. We actually had plenty of room in the car, considering our family of overpackers. The drive was uneventful and boring, but we did stop for breaks as needed. Got coffee and pastries in Haines Junction at an awesome bakery. Took lots of pictures of the mountains, but not too many of them turned out good. Filters can work wonders on otherwise dull photos! when we finally got to Whitehorse, we were hungry, so we ordered pizza and brought it to the hotel room. We ate if on the beds while we watched Food Network Star, one of our favorites. Then, took a walk and scoped out Whitehorse, which was awesome, considering it was 10:30 and still light as day. Came home to crash to get ready for a somewhat early start tomorrow.
Moving sucks.
We have been packing, cleaning, and hauling our stuff since the day school got out, May 26th. My family has moved many times before, but it is never a fun or easy task. Anyway, we can finally start our vacation now, which has been, believe me, long awaited. Every summer, my family, (mom, dad, little sister, and dog) travel to visit our relatives in different places around the US. Sure, it sounds pretty dull and stuffy, but we get to do a lot of fun, exciting things, from street fairs and baseball games in Ohio, to walking barefoot on the beach and riding the ferry to San Francisco in California. It's never ever boring, I can tell you that. Tomorrow, we will be hitting the road to drive from our home in Glennallen, Alaska to West Marin, California where my grandmother lives. On the way, we will stop and visit my aunt, who lives in Port Townsend Washington. We'll then drive further to Point Reyes CA, where we will stay for the majority of the summer. My dad and I will leave partway through to fly to Northeast Ohio to stay with my other grandmother for 3 weeks. Finally, we will fly back with her to California to be with us there for 10 days, before flying back. We will drive back to AK with my California grandma, stopping in Port Townsend again on the way. Whew! This blog is to document my many adventures and exploits through the eyes of a bright, cultured teen (if I do say so myself!). I'll also include photos, taken with my new iPhone 6 (thank you, parents!). Hopefully, while we're traveling, I'll be able to post daily, but no promises, though! Happy trails! |
